Flagstone Initiative News 2026 Q2

The Flagstone Team • May 3, 2026

Spring has sprung, and here at Flagstone we are working hard to expand to meet the growing demand for Rent Loans from cost-burdened renters. We now reach over 10,000 of these households, up from 7,000 at the end of last year!

To handle the growth, we are focused on scaling our automated systems, and expanding our presence in three key geographies: Birmingham & Mobile/Alabama, Louisville & Lexington/Kentucky, and Atlanta/Georgia. Let’s take a closer look at our fastest growing market, Atlanta. Atlanta is hot.

  • Government engagement in upstream eviction prevention
Flagstone has been selected by the City of Atlanta to administer their Eviction Prevention Microloan Program as cities turn to cost-effective upstream interventions to keep renters in their homes and stop homelessness before it starts.

  • Strong partnerships to reach tens of thousands of renter households
We are delighted to have excellent partners for upstream distribution to renters in Atlanta. PadSplit and Open Doors Atlanta are notable in this regard:

    PadSplit
is a public benefit corporation that connects people looking for an affordable place to live with property owners who have private rooms for rent.

    Open Doors
is a nonprofit that houses people exiting, experiencing, or at risk of homelessness or housing insecurity.

  • An active community dedicated to helping renters in Greater Atlanta
There are a lot of committed champions for housing stability in Atlanta, both in terms of nonprofit efforts and philanthropic dollars, and they too are embracing the power of upstream prevention.

This quarter we have big shoutouts to give to: William Josef Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta, Alabama Power Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, and a really nice anonymous donor.

If you would like to be a really nice donor (anonymous or not), here’s a link to donate.

Fired up. Ready to go!

Gregor, as you rotate out of your board seat, we want to thank you for crucial contributions as a co-founder and for serving the last four years as our inaugural Chairman. You were instrumental in founding and standing up Flagstone. We wouldn’t be where we are without you. How do we appreciate you? Let us count the ways: You fostered innovation and helped us achieve product/market fit. You gave us access to properties where we could learn, test, and pilot different upstream prevention approaches. You also gave us the freedom to explore and iterate quickly—“Do what you want.” You also raised the capital needed to launch the Flagstone Initiative. In addition to the generous support that you provided, you also found like-minded funders to join you. Without that initial funding, there wouldn’t have been any runway to get this thing off the ground. Most importantly, you believed in us and in the win-win vision that upstream prevention would prevent both renters and housing providers. You publicly advocated for the idea of upstream prevention and helped put the word in the street. We will miss you, Gregor, but we will continue to build on what we’ve created together and carry on with your vision of using scalable technology solutions to become the "biggest nonprofit ever." Thank you, Gregor, from the entire Flagstone team!
