A Rent Loan helped Sharita avoid eviction

Sharita, a USMC Veteran, had a decade-long career and $7,000 in savings when she lost her job due to a broken hip.
The injury left her in pain for more than 2 years and in need of serious surgery.
After only a few months, rent and bills caused savings to run out.
Before surgery, she was in too much pain to work. Sharita was on the verge of eviction for the first time in her life
“I’ve been gainfully employed my whole life, so to be in this position was painful. And I was short rent, I had no idea what I was gonna do”
When she needed help, it was difficult to navigate and qualify for.
Even though she had some Veteran services available to her, it took weeks to qualify, and even longer for relief to be sent. Sharita had been the support system for her mom and daughter, so when she was the one who needed help, no one was there.
When Sharita applied for the Rent Loan, she was surprised by how fast help was delivered.
It helped her keep her home before she went into hip replacement surgery, which was an extra stressful time for her medically and financially.
"I felt honored, I felt seen, I felt relieved. And it covered that balance that prevented me from getting evicted like that week."
Because she was able to avoid eviction, Sharita was able to recover from surgery in her own home. She was able to take classes that allowed her to start her own business, and has since been able to regain financial stability with the start of her exciting new career.
